Today, 18 October 2016, 11.00, was held a press conference, chaired by the Deputy Chairman of the National Committee for combating trafficking in human beings, the Minister of interior, Mr. Alexandru Jizdan and Deputy Minister of labour, social protection and family, Mrs. Viorica Dumbraveanu. The event launched the national campaign "Week of fighting against trafficking in human beings", which runs during the period 18-24 October 2016.
This event was attended by representatives of the Permanent secretariat of the National Committee for combating trafficking in human beings, the Centre for combating trafficking in persons, Ministry of Labour, Social Protection and Family, Ministry of Education, the State Labour Inspectorate, as well as implementation partners of the national anti-trafficking policies-International Organization for Migration, US Embassy in Moldova, IC "La Strada", ATIP Moldova Law Center Causeni and media representatives.
Mr. Alexandru Jizdan, Minister of Interior noted the importance of CCTP noting that this is the primary unit to combat trafficking in human beings, with criminal jurisdiction and special investigative body, which discovers new trends of the phenomenon involving both TFU, radical modification of the methods of recruitment of victims, as well as the emergence of new forms of exploitation, which often were not encountered on the international arena.
It was mentioned that during the current year, is manifesting a downward trend of criminal offences of THB compared periods of previous years (2014, 2015), being recorded 94 crimes of THB vis-à-vis the 125 and 126 offences recorded in previous years.
With reference to the forms of exploitation of the TFU, over the past few years, we can observe an increase of operating purposes of THB through forced labour, being recorded a rise in the number of identified males victims as compared to the number of women victims.
In the current year period within the framework of the investigations carried out by the police, it has shaped a new trend, of exploiting the victims in trafficking in drugs within the territory of the Russian Federation, being thus identified 18 victims with men ages 21 to 35 years.
Deputy Minister of labour, social protection and family, Mrs. Viorica Dumbraveanu reiterated that in 2015, the National Referral System provided assistance to 98 victims of trafficking in human beings, of which 45 women, 30 men and 23 children. The number of potential victims of trafficking in human beings is 402 people. In this context, it was noted that the work of the Centre for Assistance and Protection for Victims and potential victims of THB, is subordinated to the MLSPF what has the competence to grant the respective support to this category of beneficiaries. Within 6 months of the year 2016 were assisted 54 victims of THB and 266 potential victims of THB. It should be noted that this is not the only service of its kind, throughout the Republic enables 8 similar centers.
Generalizing those mentioned in the press conference, with certainty can be stated that the Moldovan Government continuously strengthens its position in the face of the phenomenon of THB improving anti-trafficking national policies and creating partnerships with civil society and international organizations.
